1. Communication Skills - this the foundation of good management. Your success as a manager will depend on how good you are at communicating with those around you, both on a group and individual basis.
Set up the channels for two way communication to flow, such as regular meetings, informal get-togethers and briefing sessions. Develop your skills of questioning, listening and presenting to others.

2. Leadership Skills - part of being a good manager is to develop your leadership traits. Learn to adapt your approach to different scenarios and individuals.
At times you will need to act decisively, for example when faced with tight deadlines. At other times you need to be consultative, for example in problem solving and seeking creative solutions.
Some employees seek guidance from you; others value the opportunity to work on their own initiative. Being aware of what approach to take is key.

3. Delegation Skills - the best managers are those who learn to delegate. Work out your hourly rate of pay. Are you completing tasks that could be done by someone else, at a lower cost? Make sure that you spend your time on high value tasks.
Build a team around you that look for more challenge and responsibility. Finally, remember that delegation does not mean dumping - make sure you support your team with guidance and feedback when needed.
