How can I manage a difficult boss?
I can't deal with my boss, he keeps undermining every decision I make!
It's so embarrassing when we are in meetings and I make a statement or answer a floor question. He always seems to add a remark to the effect that I'm new here or I don't fully understand when really it's him who has the problem! I think he is insecure! What you think I should do??

Thanks William, for contributing! I have seen this situation many times. Your boss may want to show that he is in charge, or that he is an expert on the topic. He may not even realize the negative impact this is having on you!
It is time to tackle this situation. Bring the issue up, ideally when he is receptive, you have the time to discuss it and you are not likely to be interrupted.
1. Describe a recent situation where this behaviour happened.
2. Describe how it made you feel.
3. Describe your preferred outcome (without being demanding).
Say all this without using the "You" word (which can be perceived as an attack) and watch your body language and tone of voice. Appear calm, open and positive.
Giving this some thought before you do it will make all the difference. Handled well and your boss is likely to be impressed with your honesty and frankness. You will be able to build a better long term relationship.
Your personal attitude is important. Believe in yourself and a positive outcome. You will find it much easier to approach your boss!
That is my take on it - what do other visitors think? Have you any other suggestions or experience that might help William? I'd love to hear them!
